Mission Statement

 

The mission of MDCM is to provide young dancers with the opportunity to experience the art of Creative Dance and performance in a challenging and supportive environment. By adhering to the principle goal of Creative Dance, which is communication and self-expression through movement, MDCM seeks to allow students to learn to speak through their bodies. In addition, MDCM offers dancers the rewarding, while sometimes arduous, process of collaboratively creating and practicing dances together, thereby promoting self-esteem and self-discipline. Ultimately, dancers experience the sheer joy of movement and the pride of having created and presented art together through collaboration.

 

Members of MDCM will be required to participate in the following:

 

Audition: One audition annually. Two dates will be scheduled, one in June and one in September. Audition will consist of Modern technique exercises and combinations, and Creative Dance  improvisation exercises. Appropriate attire for audition is form-fitting dance clothing such as leotard and tights/dance pants, bare feet, with hair securely pulled back.  Dancers aged 8-18 are invited to participate. A sign up sheet will be posted at the studio by mid May.  If you are not currently enrolled in MDA please call 203.268.1200 to sign up.

 

MDA Classes: Advanced Creative, once per week, see schedule, and one Modern technique class with Stephanie, according to dancer's level, once per week, see schedule.

 

MDCM Company Rehearsals: Approximately one hour each, twice a month, on Sunday afternoons. Schedule to be announced, will vary according to performance schedule and will coordinate with families.

 

MDCM Performances, Field Trips, etc.: Local community-based performances, one in the fall, one in the spring, dates to be announced; one in-studio performance to be held in December during the final week before the holiday break; and MDA annual dance recitals held at Masuk High School in June. During the school year, dancers will have the opportunity to participate in master classes and at least one dance-related field trip, details to be announced.

 

Company Fees: $175 per year, per member, due by October 1st.

 

Attendance Policy: Because Creative Dance is a COLLABORATIVE endeavor in which students work with and rely upon each other during the entire choreographic process, and because we have kept the two class requirement and rehearsal time commitment to a minimum in order to accommodate the very busy schedules of company members, it is necessary to ask that company members attend ALL classes, rehearsals, and performances unless for reasons of illness, required school/extra-curricular events, family travel, or unforeseen family circumstances. In such cases, it will be necessary to notify the studio asap, 203-268-1200.
